About the Position
Part‑time position located in Denver, CO. Total 4 hours per week in the Colorado Department of Corrections. The role involves comprehensive medication‑assisted treatment (MAT) for inmates with opioid use disorder (OUD) by collaborating with the Alcohol and Drug section.
Key Responsibilities
Provide treatment to inmates with OUD.
Conduct medical histories, including substance use and psychiatric histories, and perform physical examinations relevant to OUD.
Order and interpret diagnostic tests, schedule regular visits, and educate offenders about opioid use and overdose.
Prescribe and adjust methadone, buprenorphine, and naltrexone based on clinical needs.
Supervise and provide clinical guidance to Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants.
Conduct training and demonstrations for other health‑care professionals.
Offer medical advice to organizational units via consultation.
Maintain computer data entry, referrals, medical reporting, and compliance with DOC regulations and state statutes.
Attend quarterly medical review board meetings, monthly physician round tables, and other division meetings.
Minimum Qualifications
Licensed to practice medicine in Colorado as an MD or DO.
Board‑eligible (completed residency) or board‑certified in one of the following specialties:
Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, Preventive Medicine .
Special Qualifications
Experience prescribing methadone and buprenorphine for OUD.
At least one year of experience in addiction medicine or addiction psychiatry.
Board certification or eligibility in addiction medicine or addiction psychiatry preferred.
Valid current DEA registration covering Schedule III medications.
Required Competencies
Provide direct patient care to inmates.
Knowledgeable in full‑spectrum primary care and office‑based procedures.
Maintain professionalism in a complex environment.
Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
Ability to read and comprehend English and produce accessible documents.
Ability to remain calm, stable, and resilient under stress.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience providing medical care in a correctional setting.
Board certification in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine.
Experience managing chronic medical conditions as a Physician.
Essential Conditions of Employment
Minimum 21 years of age.
Valid Colorado driver’s license.
High school diploma or GED.
No felony convictions.
Eligibility to work in the United States; CDOC does not sponsor visas.
Completion of required basic training and standing within DEA regulations.
