Pharmacy Technician, Main Campus
Job Summary
Works under the supervision of the Pharmacy Coordinator or Pharmacist. The shift for this role is full-time rotating shift (days and evenings) with weekend work required. Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time.

Essential Functions

Performs job responsibilities in accordance with organizational and departmental policies, procedures, performance improvement objectives and environmental and infection control standards.

Coordinates daily workflow in assigned area and provides leadership to other technicians.

Performs extemporaneous compounding and repackages bulk medications into unit dose per policy and procedure.

Enters charges and credits and restocks returns.

Makes good decisions, accepts responsibilities, and maintains competency in multiple areas.

Accepts duty as knowledge and training resource for specific areas of responsibility and works to improve these areas.

Accurately fills all orders, floor stock, and fill lists.

Performs IV calculations and prepares IV admixture using proper aseptic technique. Handles all intravenous chemotherapy.

Delivers medication on time.

Provides prompt and courteous service, receives incoming calls and prioritizes based on urgency or nature of requests.

Audits and signs out all controlled substances in accordance with state and federal guidelines and organizational policies.

Identifies and corrects discrepancies and reports unusual usage patterns and trends.

Completes medication area inspections and removes and documents expired medications.

Assists with ordering, managing and monitoring drug inventory in a fiscally responsible manner and is cognizant of appropriate PAR levels.

Participates in educational programs, in‑services and meetings.

Participates in new employee orientation and training.

Treats co‑workers and organizational and departmental property and resources with respect.

Maintains clean, orderly and stocked work environment.

Works and problem solves with minimal supervision.

Duties may include one or more core functions: directly interacting with or caring for patients, human‑subject research participants, maintaining, modifying, releasing or similarly affecting patient or research records.

If IV certified and scheduled to compound sterile admixtures, performs IV calculations and prepares IV admixture using proper aseptic technique.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Education and Experience

High School Diploma or equivalent.

1 year of experience in pharmacy or equivalent technician role.

Licenses and Certifications (TSBP): Registered Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacist Intern upon hire, and Basic Life Support certification (American Heart Association or American Red Cross) upon hire.

Preferred

Licenses and Certifications (PTCB): Pharmacy Technician Certification Board, Certified Compound Sterile Prep Technician.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Ability to perform math reasoning.

Attention to detail and adherence to safety regulations.

Strong written and oral communication skills, good English proficiency.

Good general health and stress coping ability.

Moderate physical effort: prolonged standing/walking, occasional lifting up to 25 lbs, reaching, bending, crouching; OSHA Category III.

Knowledge of metric and apothecary systems and ability to utilize basic pharmacy equipment.

Telephone and personal contact with various levels of internal and external personnel and organizations.
