Position Overview
Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) will provide direct patient care on the Monday through Friday, 3:00 PM – 11:30 PM shift in a 24/7 psychiatric hospital. The role involves working within an interdisciplinary team, administering medications, implementing individualized treatment plans, and supporting the therapeutic environment for patients on adult acute admissions, geriatric, and extended rehabilitation units.

Key Responsibilities

Provide quality care as part of an interdisciplinary team.

Supervise PNA staff under RN supervision and provide work direction.

Maintain accountability in a safe, secure, and therapeutic environment.

Create healthy interpersonal interactions on adult acute admissions, geriatric, and extended rehabilitation units.

Observe and report interventions, treatments, behaviors, physical and emotional well-being.

Document and communicate patient status and treatment outcomes.

Apply specialized training to promote mental wellness recovery.

Prioritize time to meet patient needs and perform duties such as medication administration.

Implement all individual treatment plans as written.

Administer medications and treatments and document patient education and responses according to policy and procedure.

Support unit milieu management, apply TOVA principles, and guide PCTs in daily care.

Maintain medication room supplies and equipment checks, following policy.

Use the Electronic Health Record effectively under RN supervision.

Complete required in‑services, annual competencies, and training timely.

Demonstrate reliability by adhering to attendance policies, flexing schedules, and assisting coworkers as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Current Virginia or Compact LPN licensure (or eligibility).

Knowledge of mental illness, treatment modalities, and safe medication administration.

Ability to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care and nursing care plans.

Strong leadership skills with ability to delegate, supervise, and guide nursing staff.

Effective communication skills (written, verbal, and sign) and ability to work collaboratively on interdisciplinary teams.

Knowledge and application of recovery‑oriented and trauma‑informed care principles.

Ability to work overtime or extended shifts in a 24/7 psychiatric hospital when required.

Completion of all mandatory annual competencies, including TOVA III with physical restraints.

Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Healthcare Providers (AHA).
