Cardinal Newman High School, located in West Palm Beach, FL is searching for a School Nurse for the 2026-2027 Academic Year. Responsibilities
Conduct health assessments, including vital signs, physical examinations, and health screenings for students.
Administer medications and injections following established protocols, ensuring proper documentation and compliance with HIPAA regulations
Respond promptly to medical emergencies, utilizing emergency medicine skills and trauma center experience when necessary.
Manage medical records maintaining accurate documentation of all patient care activities.
Provide health education and counseling to students on topics such as hygiene, nutrition, and injury prevention.
Collaborate with teachers, parents, and healthcare providers to develop individualized health plans for students with special needs or chronic conditions.
Assist in infection control practices and monitor for communicable diseases within the school environment.
Support students in various clinical settings including outpatient clinics or urgent care scenarios when required.
Maintain a safe environment by adhering to all health regulations and protocols related to physiology knowledge, anatomy knowledge, and patient assessment techniques.
Qualifications
Valid nursing license with current registration; experience working as a registered nurse (RN).
Prior experience in Level II trauma centers or emergency medicine strongly preferred; familiarity with Level I Trauma Center procedures is a plus.
Proven expertise in hospital medicine, medical-surgical nursing, or outpatient clinic settings; experience in pediatric or adolescent care is advantageous
Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) required; additional certifications such as IV insertion, venipuncture, medication administration, and infection control are highly desirable.
Knowledge of EMR/EHR systems for efficient medical documentation and record keeping.
Strong understanding of medical terminology, physiology, anatomy, and patient assessment techniques.
Experience with urgent care environments or post-acute care settings enhances your ability to respond swiftly during emergencies.
Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with students, staff, families, and healthcare teams while maintaining confidentiality per HIPAA standards.
Physical And Work Requirements
Occasional light lifting and carrying of under 15 pounds
Occasional moderate carrying and lifting of 15 – 44 pounds
Frequent use both hands and fingers (i.e. typing)
Frequent extended periods of sitting
Occasional periods of standing, kneeling and climbing
Occasional ability of minimal hearing (i.e. loud noises, sirens) and routine hearing (i.e. listening to others in conversation)
Occasional time spent working closely with others
