Position Overview
Animal Dermatology Clinic – San Diego is seeking a Registered Veterinary Technician or Experienced Veterinary Assistant. The ideal candidate is energetic, positive, upbeat, takes initiative, committed to the clinic’s needs, punctual, teaches others, welcomes diversity, adapts to change, is accountable, and sees the big picture.
Responsibilities
Demonstrate excellent relations with clients and pets in the waiting area and exam rooms.
Exceed client expectations.
Provide compassionate nursing care as top priority for all patients.
Handle housekeeping and maintenance.
Perform a cursory animal exam and recognize potential patient issues.
Communicate findings clearly to a doctor.
Maintain accurate record keeping.
Fill prescriptions and dispense medications as prescribed.
Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)
Previous experience or training in a veterinary facility.
Friendly, outgoing, people‑oriented.
Excellent communication skills.
Ability to cross‑train for front office receptionist duties; telephone and computer skills required.
Team player willing to learn new techniques, treatments, and embrace change.
Medical‑Related Skills
Phlebotomy
IV catheter placement
Animal restraint during procedures
Anesthetic induction and monitoring
Assistance with procedures
Suture of cutaneous and subcutaneous tissues
Bandage and splint application
Wound care
Stethoscope and otoscope usage
Advising pet owners on proper care
Education and Physical Requirements
High‑school diploma or equivalent.
Dependable attendance.
Ability to lift at least 40 pounds.
Willingness to work long or irregular hours under pressure.
Ability to walk, bend, stand, squat, or reach constantly during a minimum 8‑hour day.
