Job Overview
This position focuses on maintaining the reliability and safety of plumbing infrastructure across commercial and manufacturing facilities. The role requires diagnosing complex plumbing issues, performing preventive maintenance on water distribution and drainage systems, and executing repairs that keep operations running smoothly. Working independently and as part of a facilities team, the plumber ensures all work meets stringent safety standards and California state code requirements. This hands‑on position demands technical expertise, strong problem‑solving abilities, and a commitment to maintaining safe, efficient plumbing systems that support critical business operations. Compensation is determined per applicable union contract and collective bargaining agreement.
Day‑to‑Day Responsibilities
Perform preventive maintenance and inspections on water distribution systems, drain lines, fixtures, valves, and backflow prevention devices
Diagnose plumbing problems and implement effective solutions to restore system functionality and prevent future issues
Install and modify water lines, drain systems, gas piping, backflow preventers, valves, and fixtures to support facility operations
Respond promptly to emergency plumbing issues such as leaks, clogs, and system failures to minimize downtime
Maintain accurate records of all work performed, materials used, and system modifications for compliance tracking
Conduct safety inspections and ensure compliance with OSHA standards and California plumbing codes
Collaborate with facility management and other trades to coordinate plumbing work and support building projects
Read and interpret plumbing blueprints, specifications, and schematics to execute installations and repairs accurately
Required Qualifications
Applicant must be a member of Plumbers Union Local 78 in good standing
Valid California journeyman plumber license and current certifications required by the state (3‑5 years of experience for journeyman level; master plumber license requires additional experience beyond journeyman level)
Pipe Card certification and OSHA 10 (minimum) certification
3‑5 years of commercial or industrial plumbing maintenance experience (minimum for journeyman level)
Proficiency with plumbing diagnostic tools and pressure testing equipment
Strong knowledge of California Plumbing Code, local ordinances, and safety regulations
Ability to read plumbing drawings, isometric diagrams, and technical specifications
Physical capability to lift 50 pounds and work from ladders or in confined spaces, including extended periods of standing, kneeling, or overhead work; tolerance for working in extreme temperatures, confined spaces, and at heights
Ability to pass extensive background check and obtain required security clearances for facility access
Compliance with prevailing wage requirements where applicable
Preferred Qualifications
Backflow prevention certification and experience testing backflow devices
Additional certifications such as OSHA 30, medical gas installer, or confined space training
Background in manufacturing facilities, office buildings, or healthcare environments
Experience with water treatment systems, pumps, and pressure regulation equipment
Familiarity with CMMS software for work order management and maintenance tracking
Knowledge of water conservation systems, greywater systems, and sustainable plumbing practices

Estimated Compensation
124,800.00 - 141,440.00 USD per year
This range is an estimate and actual compensation may differ. Final compensation packages are determined by various considerations including but not limited to candidate qualifications, location, market conditions, and internal considerations.
