Patient Care Technician - Perioperative 50% Days

University of Iowa Health Care is seeking a Patient Care Technician for the Perioperative Division.

Responsibilities

Independently obtain and record vital signs including temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure.

Carry out medical asepsis when performing skills and tasks including but not limited to phlebotomy, peripheral IV removal, & Foley catheter removal and care for patients who are medically isolated.

Perform simple diagnostic and therapeutic procedures such as enemas, preoperative preparation of the skin, dressing changes, collecting specimens, applying binders, braces, etc.

Perform special duties as taught and directed by the nurse in charge including but not limited to phlebotomy, ECG lead/12‑lead placement, and brace/pin site care.

Assist with patient admission, transfers, and discharges.

Directly provide patients with personal hygiene and comfort.

Turn, position, and ambulate patients.

Transport patients, equipment, specimens, and supplies.

Feed patients, serve drinking water and nourishment, and record patients' intake.

Assist patients with bedpans and urinals and record output.

Participate in nursing care conferences; report pertinent patient information and incidents to the nurse in charge.

Provide patient comfort measures through social interactions.

Share responsibility for preparation, proper use and care of equipment and supplies, and for neatness and cleanliness of the unit.

May assemble and maintain equipment and supplies in preparation for various diagnostic or treatment procedures performed by physicians or nurses.

Clean areas per designated guidelines and standards, demonstrating proper use of approved disinfectants, cleaning products, and housekeeping equipment.

Stock and supply patient rooms and nursing units.

Percent of Time: 50%

Schedule:

Monday‑Friday Day Shift. Rotating shifts, holidays, and weekends as needed. No call.

CNA certification.
