Job Description
The registered professional nurse is responsible for utilizing job skills to effectively carry out the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, evaluation, documentation, and time management. The nurse must communicate quality, work within a team, and demonstrate leadership and professionalism. Responsibilities also include directing, coordinating, and implementing patient teaching, quality and safety initiatives, and activities of other health team personnel while maintaining professional nursing standards. The Registered Nurse II (RN II) provides care to the population assigned, completes yearly mandatory competencies, unit‑specific competencies identified by the Director/Designee, and the Professional Practice Ladder requirements. This includes assuming responsibility as Charge Nurse, participating in PI activity and departmental initiatives, communicating with the Director/Designee and co‑workers, attending Valley Health paid education, seminars, conferences, or nursing articles, maintaining a current portfolio submitted annually by March 1, soliciting and validating patient/family satisfaction, participating in peer review, and developing educational materials such as bulletin boards or posters.

Bachelor’s Nursing (BSN) – preferred.
Experience
Advancement to this level requires a minimum of 1,872 full‑time or part‑time hours (936 if holding a BSN) of RN experience and completion of a performance evaluation.
Certification & Licensure
RN License – required. Must be licensed or eligible to practice pending licensure as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia with either a multi‑state license under the Nurse Licensure Compact or a single‑state license valid in Virginia only.
BLS Certification (Basic Life Support) – American Heart ‘Healthcare Provider’ (HCP) – AHA approved required. New hires must hold this certification prior to completion of orientation.
Relevant specialty certification – preferred.
Qualifications
Meets all requirements of an RN I.
Competent to provide care based on the cognitive, physical, emotional and chronological stages of human growth and development.
Competent to provide care using the nursing process.
Must have a reliable means of phone communication with the hospital.
