Ellenton Animal Hospital is currently seeking a Veterinary Technician to join their team.
Position Overview
The Veterinary Technician supports hospital operations by providing dedicated veterinary care and exceptional service to patients and clients. Key responsibilities include determining animal requirements, conducting examinations, performing diagnostic procedures, assisting during surgery, providing nursing care, managing medical supplies and equipment, overseeing triage and discharge, and maintaining accurate patient medical records.
Key Responsibilities
Determine animal requirements by conducting examinations, reviewing care plans, completing laboratory tests and studies, and diagnostic imaging.
Take vital signs, collect samples, administer medications and vaccines, and bandage and wrap wounds.
Support patient examinations and operations by assembling supplies, securing patients, and restraining patients as directed.
Apply knowledge of anatomy, physiology, disease processes, pharmacology, specialized equipment, and drug administration.
Obtain and verify medications.
Ensure patients have food and water, maintain cleanliness of rooms, cages, and equipment, and monitor patients for signs of disease.
Fill prescriptions and administer medications, including documentation and controlled drug security.
Maintain a safe environment by sterilizing instruments, sanitizing areas, storing supplies, verifying shelf life, and following regulations.
Document patient conditions, reactions, and changes; update the database accurately and timely.
Communicate with pet owners about patient status as directed.
Maintain equipment by following instructions, troubleshooting, performing preventive maintenance, and arranging repairs.
Maintain inventory, place orders, verify receipts.
Update job knowledge through educational opportunities and professional journals.
Release pets as directed, ensuring they are clean and groomed.
Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
Perform other duties assigned by Manager or practice.
Qualifications (Required)
High school diploma or GED.
At least 2 years experience as a veterinary technician.
Equivalent combination of education, certification, training, and/or experience may be considered.
Knowledge of surgical pet preparation, monitoring, recovery, and basic pet nursing.
Ability to perform catheter placement, phlebotomy, emergency medicine, and digital radiology correctly.
Understand and limit potential exposure to bites, scratches, and injuries.
Ability to restrain patients according to standard procedures.
Fill prescriptions and monitor sedation procedures as directed.
Work with hazardous materials, cleaning chemicals, gas anesthetics, and zoonotic diseases.
Display confidence and reassurance when dealing with stressed, ill, or painful pets.
Communicate and approach duties professionally and maturely.
Physical demands: lifting, cleaning, constant motion, lifting up to 50 pounds.
Tasks may involve extended periods at a keyboard or standing, walking, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
Preferred Skills
Experience monitoring surgical patients.
Certification (CVT, LVT, RVT, LVMT) preferred or required by state.
Displays desire to build rapport, provide personal assistance, and emotional support.
Works cooperatively with team.

Schedule
4 shifts; Monday through Friday between 7:45 am and 5:45 pm, rotating Saturday shifts from 7:45 am to 12:45 pm.
