Description
— Patient Care Associate MSH GP8E Med/Surg FT Evenings EOW. As an integral part of the clinical care team, the Patient Care Associate is responsible for patient care and support activities promoting patient-focused care within the Specialty Service. The Patient Care Associate supports the registered nurse in patient care activities, such as assisting patients with activities of daily living, collecting specimens and performing procedures; maintaining a safe, clean environment; and other duties as needed.
Responsibilities
Clinical/Technical/Service tasks as directed
Demonstrates the ability to perform clinical/technical/service/administrative tasks
Provides care based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and related criteria appropriate to the age of patients served in the assigned area
Performs and records patients vital signs (blood pressure, pulse, temperature, respirations) and documents intake/output and other data as assigned
Obtains patients rating on pain scales as a fifth vital sign in all areas except Pediatrics
Performs clinical procedures (e.g., venipuncture, EKG, application of compression devices, post-mortem care, maintenance of skin integrity) and prepares for procedures
Assists patients with activities of daily living (feeding, bathing, toileting) and orients patients to the clinical environment; assists with ambulation and mobilization
Assists with dietary functions (delivering/collecting trays, assisting with menu completion, mixing nutritional supplements) and communicates variations in eating patterns to RN/Dietitian
Maintains a safe, clean, and functional environment; supports room maintenance and timely disposal of waste
Performs on-to-one or close observation of patients as needed (safety, elopement risk, suicide prevention) and maintains isolation status as directed by an RN
Performs hourly care checks/rounding to address toileting, comfort, positioning, and pain awareness; notifies RN if rounding is not completed
Uses Vocera system or hospital phone according to sign-in/sign-out protocol
Transports patients and specimens as required; updates communication boards/discharge logs
Assembles medical records and supports admissions/transfers/discharges
Maintains supplies and care of equipment; participates in department performance improvement activities
Communicates professionally with patients, families, staff and extended community; respects diversity
Performs other duties as assigned and participates in development of staff as appropriate
Qualifications
High School Diploma (graduate or equivalent)
Certificate completing a medical assistant/patient care assistant program with skills in venipuncture and EKG
Interpersonal skills to communicate and collaborate with the Specialty Service team
Documentation of Medical Assistant/Patient Care Associate training
Three to nine months of healthcare experience preferred
Ability to set priorities, problem solve, use good judgment, and be flexible
Sufficient oral and written English to communicate effectively
Physical stamina and manual dexterity for tasks in the assigned area
American Heart Association Heartsaver or BLS Certification
Compensation
The salary range for the role is $27.8501 - $29.8772 per hour. Actual salary depends on experience, education, and operational need. This range does not include bonuses, differential pay, or other compensation or benefits.
