Nurse's Aide (32 Hour)

Location: Rocky Hill, CT
Schedule: Part‑time, 32 hours per week, 3rd Shift, 10:45 pm – 7:15 am
Salary: $25.11 – $34.04 per hour (minimum for new State employees)

Responsibilities

Assist doctors and nurses with general care and wellbeing of patients.

Position, transfer, move and lift patients.

Take and record temperatures, pulses and respirations.

Observe patients and report unusual symptoms and/or behavior.

Ensure that restraints are correctly applied.

Test urine samples for sugar.

Collect specimens.

Keep beds, bedpans and related equipment clean.

Maintain unit environment for patient safety.

Transport patients, specimens and other related items.

Prepare reports and correspondence, including dietary orders, death paperwork and chart assembly.

May feed, bathe and massage clients or respond to their general needs.

May apply or remove braces.

May process billing and/or insurance information.

May act as triage and/or receptionist for incoming patients and telephone calls.

May schedule patient appointments.

May order supplies.

Perform related duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Considerable interpersonal skills.

Ability to work with basic principles of nursing, including infection control practices.

Ability to deal with physically and chronically ill patients.

Ability to learn safety and fire procedures.

Minimum Qualifications

Certification as a Nurse's Aide.

One (1) year of experience in patient care in a hospital or nursing home.

Certification as a Nurse’s Aide required for certain UConn Health positions.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working in a Skilled Nursing Facility (nursing home).

Experience providing nursing services to patients with dementia.

Experience working with the veterans population.

Experience working with clients/patients with behavioral health issues or Post‑Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

Experience documenting in an Electronic Health Record (e‑MAR).
