Description
Our hospital is seeking a Senior Veterinary Assistant with a focus on Surgery to help provide outstanding patient care and client service in a fast‑paced, multi‑doctor animal hospital.
The Veterinary Surgery Assistant is responsible for all aspects of the surgical department flow including seeing surgical appointments, performing diagnostics prior to surgery, administering and monitoring anesthesia in the pre‑, peri‑, and post‑operative periods. Also responsible for maintaining treatment while in hospital post‑operatively, discharging patients, and client communications.
While this role will have a strong surgical focus, the assistant will also work in outpatient as well with some weekend coverage. The candidate will help with routine and urgent patient care, client communication, and hospital stocking and cleaning.
The Veterinary Surgery Assistant is responsible for assisting veterinarians in the care of animals. The assistant helps during initial examinations by restraining animals when necessary, stocking examination and surgery rooms with supplies, sterilizing tools and ensuring that equipment is in working order. Technical skills will include, but are not limited to: venipuncture, catheter placement, anesthesia administration and monitoring, dental prophylaxis, radiography, administering medications, performing laboratory analysis, and client education. Veterinary assistants also communicate with clients (pet owners) and update patient files.
