Position Summary
This role will be responsible for the execution of advanced billing operations that directly support Xcel Energy’s most complex and high‑value customer segments, including Commercial and Industrial Billing, Gas Transport, Solar Gardens, Steam, Chilled Water, and Wholesale/Transmission accounts. This role plays a critical part in safeguarding financial integrity and driving operational excellence across the enterprise. It requires deep subject‑matter expertise in diverse rate structures and the ability to interpret and apply them with precision. The position also involves designing and implementing tailored billing solutions for unique contractual scenarios, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and the federal Sarbanes‑Oxley Act. Success in this role hinges on strategic thinking, cross‑functional collaboration, and a commitment to data integrity and continuous process improvement that supports enterprise‑wide financial reliability.
Essential Responsibilities
Execute highly specialized billing functions to ensure accurate and timely invoices for Commercial and Industrial, Gas Transport, Solar Gardens, Steam, Chilled Water and Wholesale/Transmission accounts.
Interpret, analyze and apply a wide range of tariffs and rate structures across Xcel Energy’s operating companies with precision and consistency.
Coordinate and analyze complex technical data to support billing activities for regulated and non‑regulated customers.
Assess and process interval measurement and billing data to generate accurate and timely customer invoices.
Research, design, test, and implement customized billing solutions to meet unique contractual requirements for Commercial and Industrial customers.
Collaborate with various internal departments to resolve complex billing issues, ensure high‑quality customer service, and maintain operational continuity across the organization.
Maintain rigorous data integrity and adherence to billing processes across all operating systems to support enterprise‑wide financial reliability.
Exercise independent judgment and initiative within established parameters to drive billing accuracy, timeliness and compliance, which is impactful to the company’s earnings determination process.
Work closely with field technicians to identify and address service‑related issues, and proactively initiate field maintenance requests.
Maintain electronic metering information, validate reads, coordinate meter device installs & removals.
Create & maintain systems sources/databases. Monitor critical events impacting measurement data.
Drive business performance with a focus on operational efficiencies that deliver on financial objectives, minimize company financial risk, and ensure corporate compliance with regulatory rules and federal Sarbanes‑Oxley Act requirements.
Other duties as assigned including special projects.
Minimum Requirements
Post‑secondary education or at least 7 years relevant experience, including: 5 years in utility billing or related function such as finance, accounting, rates, customer service.
Familiarity with utility regulatory requirements.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
Demonstrated experience in analytical or accounting‑based work.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Preferred Requirements
Bachelor’s degree (BS or BA) in business, finance, accounting or a related discipline.
Technical expertise in Customer Resource System.
Advanced analytical skills.

The anticipated starting base pay for this position for candidates in Eau Claire, WI is: $24.50 - $31.85 per hour.
The anticipated starting base pay for this position for candidates in Amarillo, TX is: $22.20 - $28.85 per hour.
Non‑Bargaining – The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $22.20 to $34.50 per hour.
