Mechanical Installer – Chilled Water Systems | Pipefitter – Industrial Piping

Buffalo, NY

Department : Manufacturing / Assembly / Mechanical Integration

Employment Type : Full-Time

Company Overview
GTI Energy operates in a contract manufacturing and industrial manufacturing environment focused on building and integrating complex modular systems. Our production model includes fabrication, assembly, electrical integration, and mechanical system installation within a high‑mix, engineered‑to‑order environment. We support modular infrastructure including cooling systems, power systems, and system‑level builds where precision, quality, and execution are critical.

Position Overview
GTI Energy is seeking a Mechanical Installer – Chilled Water Systems to support installation and integration of industrial piping systems within modular builds. This role is responsible for assembling pre‑fabricated pipe spools, installing chilled water piping systems, and connecting mechanical equipment including pumps, valves, and related components.

This is not a welding role.

The Mechanical Installer focuses on pipe fit‑up, alignment, flange connections, and system integration using isometric drawings and Bill of Materials (BOM). Success requires a strong understanding of mechanical systems, piping layout, and installation within tight, production‑driven environments.

Key Responsibilities

Install pre‑fabricated pipe spools for chilled water and mechanical piping systems.

Hang pipe using supports, brackets, and mounting systems within modular structures.

Align and bolt flanges to ensure proper fit‑up and system integrity.

Install valves, pumps, fittings, and associated mechanical components.

Ensure all piping installations meet drawing specifications and system requirements.

Connect piping systems to pumps, heat exchangers, and cooling equipment.

Support system integration within modular builds, ensuring alignment with mechanical and electrical components.

Verify proper installation of piping systems for functionality and accessibility.

Assist with system testing and commissioning activities as required.

Read and interpret isometric drawings, P&IDs, and mechanical layouts.

Calculate offsets, angles, and takeoffs to ensure accurate installation.

Follow Bill of Materials (BOM) to ensure correct component usage and system configuration.

Identify and resolve fit‑up issues during installation.

Ensure installations meet quality standards and ISO9001 requirements.

Maintain proper alignment, torque, and connection integrity across all piping systems.

Follow OSHA safety standards and internal safety protocols.

Support First Pass Yield (FPY) by minimizing rework and installation errors.

Support Lean Manufacturing, 5S, and Continuous Improvement initiatives within the production environment.

Identify installation inefficiencies and support improvements in flow, cycle time, and takt time.

Participate in Root Cause Analysis using 5 Whys and Fishbone methodologies for installation issues.

Partner with Engineering to resolve layout, fitment, and integration challenges.

Collaborate with Production and Supply Chain to ensure material availability and installation readiness.

Work with Quality teams to address defects and improve installation processes.

Required Qualifications

2–5 years of experience as a Pipefitter, Mechanical Installer, or Industrial Pipe Installer.

Experience installing piping systems in industrial, modular, or mechanical environments.

Strong ability to read isometric drawings, P&IDs, and mechanical layouts.

Experience with pipe installation, flange alignment, and mechanical system assembly.

Familiarity with chilled water systems, cooling systems, or mechanical piping.

Ability to calculate offsets, angles, and perform basic layout work.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in modular construction, skid‑based manufacturing, or system integration environments.

Background in industrial HVAC, chilled water systems, or process piping.

Experience installing pumps, valves, and mechanical equipment.

Exposure to Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement, or structured problem solving.

OSHA 10/30 or similar safety certifications.
