
Patient Services Specialist

Job Summary
The Patient Services Specialist 1, with direct oversight, provides administrative support in a physician office, clinic or other operational area to assist patients, ensuring high quality, patient-centered care. Duties include patient relations, check‑in and check‑out, scheduling, insurance verification and answering phones.
Essential Functions
Assist with patient duties, including patient relations, check‑in and check‑out, scheduling, insurance verification, and answering phones. Arrange follow‑up visits and referral appointments.
Assist with patient registration duties by collecting and verifying insurance information, verifying patient demographics, and entering changes into the computer system. Direct patients to appropriate waiting areas.
Accept payments for physician/clinic services according to established guidelines. Post payments and enter charges into the computer using appropriate codes. Generate daily payment reports and verify cash drawer against report.
Provide accurate patient, medical, financial or procedural information to patients or approved outside entities. May discuss financial arrangements with patients.
Receive and direct phone calls. Assist patients and visitors. Respond to routine inquiries concerning practice services, hours of operation, etc. Ensure any patient complaints are handled appropriately.
Assist with medical records duties as requested.

Ability to adapt communication style to suit different audiences. Empathetic listener, sensitive, upbeat, optimistic, articulate, gracious and tactful.
Ability to promptly assess requests using electronic and paper resource materials and correctly respond to patient inquiries.
Ability to calm upset patients in a composed and professional demeanor.
Excellent data entry, numeric, typing and computer navigation skills, with attention to detail.
Comfortable working in a fast‑paced, constantly changing and stressful environment.
