Work Schedule:
Hours M-F 08:30-17:30. Busy clinic with a large number of geriatric and pediatric patients. Clinic sees 90-100 patients per day.
Position Summary
The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, trouble shooting, training and making work flow recommendations.
Key Responsibilities
Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge samples, and record maintenance data.
Collect and store specimens following established procedures.
Explain venipuncture and specimen collection processes clearly and courteously to patients.
Demonstrate proficiency using straight needles and butterfly needles.
Review and understand physicians' orders thoroughly.
Match laboratory requisition forms with specimen tubes accurately.
Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.
Verify all test requisitions and labels for 100% accuracy.
Package and prepare specimens for transport.
Maintain specimen integrity by following temperature and handling protocols.
Ensure compliance with OSHA and DEP regulations.
Participate in annual department training sessions.
Handle incoming calls and provide laboratory results as needed.
Qualifications & Experience
Valid Phlebotomy certification (as required by state).
Minimum 6 months of venipuncture experience in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
2-4 years of overall experience preferred.
At least 2 years of blood draw experience.
Experience with both pediatric and geriatric patients.Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
High School Diploma or GED required.
