Position Purpose
The Staff Accountant is responsible for preparing accounting records and reports, performing reconciliations, assisting with budgeting and audits, and supporting various accounting functions in compliance with established governmental accounting procedures. This role contributes to accurate financial reporting and works closely with both internal and external parties to ensure the integrity of financial data.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities
The following duties and responsibilities are illustrative of the primary functions of this position and are not intended to be all-inclusive.

General Ledger and Financial Reporting

Assist with general ledger (GL) and payroll account reconciliations, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP.

Prepare journal entries on a daily, monthly, quarterly, or annual basis to verify financial accuracy and identify trends.

Support the monthly close process.

Prepare various finance reports, ensuring all required data is accurate and up to date.

Perform bank reconciliations and research discrepancies.

Data Analysis and Reconciliation

Perform monthly internal reviews of accounting data.

Reconcile activity related to Ticket Vending Machine (TVM) sales using data from GFI Software, ensuring accuracy in credit card activity and sales records.

Verify that all invoices and payments are properly coded in the accounting software, particularly for Electronic Funds Transfers (EFTs) and wire transfers.

Accounting System Maintenance

Record and enter data into accounting software, ensuring all financial information is accurate and up to date.

Special Projects and Support

Assist with various ad hoc accounting projects.

Prepare various workpapers and schedules for the financial statement audit.

Support the Finance team during the annual budget preparation process.

Provide backup for the Senior Accountant as needed and fill in for absent employees.

Communication and Coordination

Coordinate findings with Accounting Technicians, Finance management, and RFTA staff, ensuring accurate and timely dissemination of financial information.

Other Duties

Assist with various financial and accounting functions as assigned by the Finance Manager or Director of Finance.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Strong understanding of GAAP and governmental accounting principles.

Proficiency in accounting software, Workday, and Excel.

Excellent attention to detail and strong analytical skills.

Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with team members and other departments.

Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize, and meet deadlines.

Valid Colorado Driver’s License required.

Qualifications
Education

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting preferred, or a combination of experience and education that yields the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job.

Experience

A minimum of two (2) years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

Working Conditions
Light physical effort is required by handling objects up to 75 pounds occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds frequently, carrying, bending and squatting.
