At Richards Building Supply, our Yard Managers play a critical role in delivering a
Raving Fan experience
by keeping our yard and warehouse operations running safely, efficiently, and accurately. This is a
hands-on leadership role
that works side-by-side with the team both indoors and outdoors, supporting daily operations, inventory flow, deliveries, and customer service.
This role is best suited for someone with experience in
yard or building materials operations , rather than large, fully automated warehouse environments.
Essential Functions:
Lead the day-to-day operations of the yard and warehouse, including material handling, loading, unloading, and organization
Supervise, schedule, and support a small team of approximately 6-8 warehouse and driver employees, adjusting for seasonal needs
Coordinate deliveries, dispatching, and yard flow to ensure accurate and timely service to customers
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe yard and warehouse environment
Operate and oversee forklifts and other material-handling equipment
Monitor inventory levels, cycle counts, and material accuracy
Partner with branch leadership, drivers, and suppliers to support efficient operations
Ensure all safety policies are followed, including PPE use and forklift safety standards
Identify opportunities to improve processes, productivity, and cost control
Train, coach, and lead employees by example, supporting a positive team culture
Support branch leadership with communication, reporting, and operational needs
Qualifications/Skills/Educational Requirements:
2+ years of supervisory or leadership experience in a yard, warehouse, or similar environment
Experience in building materials, lumber, construction supply, or related industries preferred
Comfortable working both indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions
Forklift and material-handling experience required
Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
Ability to work independently while supporting team and branch goals
Safety-focused mindset aligned with Richards' policies and standards
