Overview:
Seeking an experienced Assistant Controller with a strong background in Property & Casualty insurance. This role supports financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and accounting operations in a fast-paced, highly regulated environment. The position offers high visibility and requires both technical expertise and leadership capability.
Responsibilities:
Accounting & Reporting
Oversee month-end close, financial reporting, and general ledger activities
Review journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statements
Ensure accuracy and timeliness of all financial reporting
Compliance & Controls
Maintain and improve internal controls and accounting policies
Ensure compliance with SOX, GAAP, and statutory reporting requirements
Coordinate audits and serve as liaison to external auditors and regulators
Oversee quarterly and annual statutory filings
Technical Accounting
Research and resolve complex accounting issues
Support statutory and GAAP reporting requirements
Prepare financial analysis, variance reporting, and executive summaries
Assist with regulatory and rating agency requests
Leadership
Supervise and develop accounting staff
Support team performance, training, and process improvements
Foster a collaborative, accountable team environment
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
7+ years of accounting experience
5+ years within Property & Casualty insurance
Strong knowledge of GAAP and statutory accounting
Prior leadership or team management experience
Technical Skills:
Advanced Excel
Experience with general ledger systems (e.g., ERP platforms)
Working knowledge of SQL or data querying tools preferred
