Role Summary
Responsible for performing
read-only logical discovery, connectivity validation, and data collection
across data center network devices. The role involves logging into network devices to capture system status, interface and connectivity details, and accurately documenting findings in
customer-provided discovery templates .
The engineer works closely with
physical audit and field teams
to correlate logical data with physical labels, cabling, and rack placement using network and data center management tools. Per the customer guideline, the role also supports
post-move and post-relocation validation , ensuring devices power on correctly, retain expected connectivity, and rejoin clusters, fabrics, or HA pairs without configuration changes.
Key Responsibilities
Perform
secure, read-only login
to network tools to perform the logical assessment/audit into the documents and update the tools based on the physical audit report.
Good understanding vendor equipment like Cisco, Juniper, or next-gen firewalls.
Create and update network diagrams
Installation & Deployment : Managing the physical setup of hardware, including racking and stacking servers, running copper and fiber cabling, and configuring network devices like switches and routers
Validate
logical device identity , including hostnames, management IPs, and alignment with physical labels.
Capture
interface and connectivity details , including:
Link status (up/down)
Speed and duplex where visible
MAC and IP addresses (IPv4/IPv6)
VLAN or subnet association (status-only)
Validate
logical connectivity indicators
such as:
Basic reachability tests (ping/traceroute where permitted)
MAC and ARP table entries
Neighbor visibility (LLDP/CDP)
Populate and validate
customer-provided discovery templates
with accurate logical data, including:
Device names and management IPs
Interface identifiers, MAC/IP details, and link status
Cross-check logical findings against
physical audit data
from field teams.
Identify and report discrepancies such as:
Incorrect hostnames or labeling
Missing or inactive interfaces
Support
post-move validation
by:
Confirming successful power-on
Validating interface enumeration and connectivity consistency
Escalate post-move issues such as unreachable devices, missing links immediately.
Follow all
customer security, credential handling, access control, and audit logging policies .
Maintain high standards of
documentation accuracy and template discipline .
Core Skills & Experience
Ability to safely perform
read-only login
to network and data center management tools.
Hands on expertise and experience with data center physical layer, racking and hardware maintenance.
Expertise and experience with data center physical layer, racking and hardware maintenance
Familiarity with data center infrastructure, fiber optics, and networking hardware.
Familiarity with out-of-band and management interfaces.
Strong understanding of:
Network interfaces, link behavior, VLANs, and basic L2/L3 concepts
MAC, IP, ARP, and neighbor discovery
Ability to interpret
status and "show" commands
and extract required audit values.
Strong capability to
correlate logical data with physical network .
Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in
template-based documentation .
