Summary:
Our client is seeking a DB2 Database Administrator to support enterprise database environments, ensure availability and performance, and lead operational improvements across development, test, and production. The DB2 Database Administrator will manage day to day operations and long term reliability of DB2 databases. The role includes installation, configuration, patching, backup and recovery, performance tuning, capacity planning, and security hardening. The administrator will collaborate with application, infrastructure, and security teams to plan changes, troubleshoot incidents, and improve service levels. This position also supports release activities, creates and maintains documentation, and contributes to standards and automation.
Key Responsibilities:
• Install, configure, and maintain DB2 environments across development, test, and production
• Monitor health and performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement tuning strategies
• Design and validate backup, recovery, and disaster recovery procedures including regular tests
• Implement security controls, user provisioning, and auditing aligned to organizational policies
• Plan and execute database changes, schema updates, and data migrations with minimal downtime
• Create and optimize SQL, indexes, and statistics in partnership with development teams
• Troubleshoot incidents and root causes, providing timely remediation and post incident actions
• Perform capacity planning, growth forecasting, and environment right sizing
• Support release management, including refreshes, cloning, and environment builds
• Maintain runbooks, architecture diagrams, and standard operating procedures
• Contribute to automation for routine administrative tasks and monitoring
• Participate in on call rotation as required
Required Skills and Experience:
• Hands on DB2 administration experience in enterprise environments
• Strong knowledge of DB2 utilities, backup and recovery strategies, and performance tuning
• Proficiency with SQL, query analysis, and index optimization
• Experience with high availability and disaster recovery approaches
• Familiarity with change, incident, and problem management processes
• Scripting for administration and automation using common shells or PowerShell
• Strong documentation habits and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience supporting large public sector or similarly scaled enterprises
• Exposure to workload management, partitioning strategies, and query optimization tooling
• Experience integrating DB2 monitoring with enterprise observability platforms
• Experience collaborating in Agile delivery environments
Deliverables:
• Stable, well documented DB2 environments aligned to standards
• Tested backup and restore procedures with documented results
• Performance tuning plans and implemented improvements
• Knowledge base articles, runbooks, and environment diagrams kept current
