Job Description

This is a mobile S2-licensed wastewater operator role headquartered out of NSU's Hillsborough, NJ office, supporting wastewater operations across Northern New Jersey. The position provides hands-on operations and maintenance coverage for multiple facilities and requires a highly independent, well-organized operator who can manage site coverage, respond to alarms, and maintain strong client relationships. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with solid technical judgment, comfortable working autonomously while supporting operational reliability, compliance, and customer satisfaction across assigned facilities.
Duties and Responsibilities

Perform critical testing of facility operations, such as PH, dissolved oxygen, chlorine, etc., in order to monitor system condition
Complete Discharge Monitoring Reports as required by facilities permits
Perform general preventative maintenance on treatment plant equipment such as blower oil, filter and belt changes and pulling and inspecting submersible pumps, etc.
Maintain complete, accurate, legible records of all phases of facility operations
Maintain complete, accurate, legible records of all equipment and plant maintenance
Assist to prepare monthly written operating report based on facility's operation and/or maintenance records for the client, employer or regulatory agency as required
Inform Supervisor in a timely manner of plant problems, upsets, plant expansion, repairs, etc.
Work conscientiously, adhere to EH&S policies and processes, and be aware of and report safety hazards
Required to be part of a 24 hour on call rotation
Be prepared to discuss in a professional manner the plant operations with employer, client, visitors or regulatory personnel
Collect required samples, log in samples correctly and accurately, and submit samples to laboratory and review results to ensure permit compliance
Operate plants to meet all regulatory guidelines and responsibilities
Assist maintenance personnel with pump, blower, motor, valve, etc. removal
Maintain accurate records for gasoline, mileage, timesheets, expenses, etc.
Work scheduled weekends and occasional holidays for assigned route
Project a positive image to operators, clients, regulatory agencies, engineers, etc.
Confined Space Entry

this may be required on occasion after thorough training provided by NSU
Performs other related duties as assigned by management
Qualifications

Must be 21 years of age or older
High School Diploma or GED required
3 years of wastewater experience
40-hour work week: Monday

Friday, 7:00am

3:30 pm (30-minute lunch)
Must be available to work weekends and holidays as requested
Overtime as required
Certificates, licenses, and registrations:

Driver's License
S2 Wastewater License required

Pay range: $30.25$34.73 per hour, based on licensure and relevant experience.
