Job Title
Camp Counselor
Job Description
This is a professional staff, part-time, seasonal position with the City's Parks & Recreation Department. The individual in this position ensures the camp runs efficiently by ensuring counselors initiate, develop and maintain positive relationships, as well as making certain the safety of the campers is held in high regard.
Examples of Work
Ensure the safety and well-being of campers;
Plan, coordinate and facilitate a wide variety of activities for campers;
Supervise and interact with children while maintaining a safe and fun environment;
Explain activities to a group of 30 or more children;
Actively play with children throughout the course of each activity;
Clean the facility and play areas after each activity;
Lead children on planned field trips and maintain professionalism;
Supervise camp counselors and actively mentor the campers;
Oversee all camp operations and the planning of weekly activities;
Communicate with parents regarding camper behavior and daily incidents;
Monitor safety of all procedures as they pertain to all campers and staff;
Delegate daily camp responsibilities to counselors as needed;
Respond to critical incidents and act swiftly in emergency situations.
Education, Experience, or Certification
High School diploma or GED
One (1) year of related professional experience required
Bachelor's degree in Parks and Recreation, Teaching or related field is strongly preferred
Must be able to swim efficiently and Lifeguard experience a plus.
All applicants must be able to commit from May 25
July 31
Candidates with a current lifeguard certification may qualify for increased pay.

The Department of Human Resources Organizational Development may consider an equivalent combination of education, training, and or experience.
Part-time, contingent, seasonal, and temporary workers do not receive benefits.
