Payroll Technician
The Payroll Technician performs complex work involved in the processing of the division's payroll, responding to payroll inquiries, ensuring compliance with mandated requirements and maintaining confidential employee records.
Processes regular and supplemental semi-monthly payroll for assigned payroll activities and/or locations for the purpose of ensuring compliance with established financial, legal, and administrative requirements
Reviews, verifies, and researches information and/or documentation (e.g. time sheets, absences, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring accuracy and adherence to procedure prior to processing
Calculates, audits, and maintains information to accurately update and process salary adjustments, salary changes, and overtime
Ensures accuracy of system changes to employee records for authorized personnel actions, deductions, tax, and direct deposit changes
Analyzes and researches various reports to ensure accuracy of total gross to net payroll for assigned employees
Reconciles general ledger accounts associated with payroll processing
Prepares, processes, and reconciles remittances to appropriate agencies/third party vendors for funds withheld from paychecks including benefits, payroll taxes, and court orders
Works closely with the Talent Office regarding employee pay information, benefit deductions, and employee timekeeping
Collects and maintains documentation of payroll files and/or payroll calculation reports for internal or external audits
Interprets and communicates official Finance and School Board policies and procedures to timekeepers and/or employees
Provides general office support and excellent customer service
Assumes responsibility for own professional growth and development by keeping current with the literature and new research findings
Performs other related duties as assigned
High School Diploma or its equivalent required; Associates degree in a related field preferred
Working knowledge of payroll accounting principles and practices including pertinent federal and state laws, codes, and regulations
Ability to perform mathematical computations with speed and accuracy
Excellent planning, organizational, and time management skills, including a keen attention to detail
Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision making
Proficiency in using Microsoft Office products, Google applications, and other business solutions software
Bilingual/fluency in Spanish preferred
