Payroll Accountant
Location: 100% on-site for candidates within commutable distance of headquarters.
Compensation: $60,000 - $75,000
Position Summary
We are seeking a Payroll Accountant to serve as a hands-on partner supporting payroll operations within a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This Payroll Accountant will work closely with operations, supervisors, and accounting leadership to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant payroll processing for employees.
Key Responsibilities of the Payroll Accountant
- Oversee weekly payroll processing for union-based hourly employees in alignment with collective bargaining agreements
- Process bi-weekly payroll for salaried employees while maintaining strict confidentiality
- Monitor daily timekeeping activity, including missing punches and exception reporting
- Partner closely with Supervisors and Managers to resolve payroll discrepancies and outstanding issues
- Ensure payroll practices remain compliant with applicable tax regulations and labor laws
- Perform regular payroll reconciliations (daily, weekly, monthly) and prepare related journal entries
- Compile payroll-related reports on a weekly and month-end basis
- Support the monthly close process by reconciling payroll-related general ledger accounts
- Utilize ADP and UKG time and attendance systems to maintain accurate payroll records
- Collaborate across accounting functions and provide backup support as needed
- Assist with ad hoc projects and initiatives as directed by the Controller
Preferred Experience & Qualifications of the Payroll Accountant
- Prior payroll experience within a manufacturing or industrial environment strongly preferred
- Experience supporting both hourly (union) and salaried payroll populations
- Working knowledge of ADP, UKG, or comparable time and attendance platforms
- Advanced Excel capabilities, including formulas, formatting, and pivot tables
- Familiarity with SAP or similar ERP systems is a plus
- Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive information with professionalism and discretion
