Roseton Generating Station Operator/Mechanic
Roseton Generating Station is a dual fuel-fired electric generating facility capable of operating on both natural gas and fuel oil. The station supplies power into the NYISO Zone G market / Lower Hudson Valley capacity zone and is located approximately 43 miles north of New York City. The plant generates up to approximately 4.2 MMlb/hr of steam at 2,600 psig and 1050F to drive a turbine/generator. The process is hazardous if not controlled properly; the Operator/Mechanic plays a key role in maintaining safe operation by detecting and mitigating process upsets and abnormal conditions. The 3C O&M Operator/Mechanic supports safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the Roseton Generating Station through a combination of control room operations and hands-on operations & maintenance (O&M) work in the field. Under direct supervision, this role monitors and regulates plant systems from the control center, troubleshoots operating issues, and performs preventive and corrective maintenance on plant equipment and auxiliaries as needed.
Responsibilities:
Operate plant equipment and auxiliaries from the control center under direct supervision.
Monitor plant instruments, meters, gauges, recorders, and computer screens; record operating data as required.
Adjust controls to regulate and maintain station output and equipment performance within established parameters.
Detect, troubleshoot, and assist in diagnosing process upsets, abnormal conditions, and equipment issues.
Assist higher-level Control Operators as needed and perform other operations tasks as assigned.
Follow all operating procedures, safety rules, and plant standards for equipment operation.
Perform (as assigned) installation, troubleshooting, repair, modification, overhaul, testing, and maintenance of plant equipment and systems.
Execute preventive and corrective maintenance activities to support safe, reliable, and efficient plant operation.
Use hand tools, machine shop tooling, and welding equipment as required.
Operate forklifts, cranes, and manlifts safely and in accordance with site requirements.
Utilize PPE and tagout/lockout systems; complete maintenance documentation and reports.
Support safe execution of all tasks by following procedures and using required PPE.
Work in compliance with plant safety programs and hazard controls, including confined space and working-at-heights requirements.
Maintain readiness to respond to urgent plant needs, including call-outs and abnormal operating conditions.
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED.
Basic knowledge of power station operation and equipment mechanics; working knowledge of power cycles preferred/beneficial.
Demonstrated ability (through training or experience) to support power plant operations and maintenance work.
Ability to push, pull, turn, and position parts/tools and perform strenuous work while standing or sitting.
Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull objects up to 50 pounds.
Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces.
Must possess a valid driver's license.
Must be able to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC).
Previous Power Plant, Boiler, or Fossil Steam generation experience preferred.
Hourly wage starts at $39.88 and increases to $42.33 after six (6) months.
Working Conditions / Schedule:
12-hour rotating shift position and subject to call-outs 24/7, including extended workdays and/or workweeks as needed.
Must be able to work weekends and holidays.
Exposure to various temperatures and weather conditions.
Work includes climbing, working overhead, confined space entry, and operation of forklifts/cranes/manlifts.
Exposure to loud noise, high voltage electricity, heat, dust, fumes, and hazardous chemicals.
Must be able to wear applicable PPE including (but not limited to) hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, and Flame Resistant Clothing (FRC).
