The restaurant pays homage to the essence of the great Italian-American restaurants of mid-20th century in New York, where delicious, exceptionally well-prepared food was served in settings that were simultaneously elegant, comfortable and unpretentious. Major Food Group is hiring PM Bread/Pastry Cooks for our Carbone team!
Founded by Mario Carbone, Rich Torrisi, and Jeff Zalaznick, Carbone is one of the most celebrated Italian restaurants of the last decade. The New York Times probably put it best: "It is a fancy red-sauce joint as directed by Quentin Tarantino, bringing back the punch-in-the-guts thrills of a genre that everybody else sees as uncultured and a little embarrassing, while exposing the sophistication that was always lurking there. The restaurant has a technical prowess that can make you giddy and an instinct for sheer entertainment that makes a lot of other restaurants seem like earnest, unimaginative drones."
We are looking for experienced individuals with a strong work ethic to help set and maintain the highest standards of cuisine and professionalism.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Create and prepare all pastry items as required by the business - Prepare, clean and organize ingredients for use in the kitchen - Come up with recipe ideas from scratch - Plan the menu of desserts and pastry to complement savory items - Ensure the kitchen is clean and sanitized at all times - Oversee a team of junior pastry cooks and other staff members as necessary - Maintain up to date knowledge about pastry arts and ingredients - Carry out administrative duties to maintain an efficient workspace
Qualifications
Minimum 2 years of experience in high volume and fine dining restaurants preferred but not required
Culinary diploma with a concentration in Pastry Arts or equivalent in experience strongly preferred
Team-orientated and positive attitude
Strong communication skills a must
Compensation:
$19.00-$22.00 Hourly
