Machinist (JOIN FAST)

Aerotek, Cincinnati, OH, United States

Machinist

This role focuses on operating CNC mills, lathes, and grinders to manufacture precision parts that meet stringent customer specifications and internal quality standards in a job shop environment, where individual parts may take days to complete rather than being produced in high-volume runs.
Responsibilities

Operate CNC mills, lathes, and/or grinders to produce high-precision components according to engineering drawings and customer specifications.
Set up CNC machines, including installing and adjusting tooling, fixtures, and workholding devices to ensure accurate and efficient machining.
Perform tooling changes and changeovers as required for different jobs and part configurations.
Review and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and work instructions to determine machining operations, sequence, and required tolerances.
Edit CNC programs at the machine using G and M codes to refine processes, correct issues, and optimize part quality and cycle time.
Use micrometers, calipers, gauges, and other precision measuring instruments to verify dimensions and ensure parts meet tight tolerances of approximately 0.001 inches.
Maintain consistent quality on complex, low-volume parts in a job shop setting, where a single part may take multiple days to complete.
Monitor machine performance during operation, making adjustments as needed to maintain accuracy, surface finish, and adherence to specifications.
Handle and move materials and workpieces, including lifting up to 50 pounds safely as part of daily activities.
Follow established safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized, and climate-controlled work area.
Collaborate with team members, sharing feedback and ideas to support a flexible and growing manufacturing operation.
Document work as required, including recording measurements, job travelers, and any program or setup changes made during production.

Ability to perform tooling changes and changeovers efficiently and accurately.
Proficiency in making CNC program edits at the machine using G and M codes.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings.
Job shop machining experience, working on complex, low-volume parts that may require days to complete rather than high-volume production.
Ability to hold and maintain tight tolerances of approximately 0.001 inches.
Skilled in using precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
Mechanical aptitude and understanding of machining principles and processes.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds as part of normal job duties.
