Saw/Drill Operator
The Saw Operator is responsible for accurately cutting metal materials to specified lengths and dimensions using band saws, cold saws, or other cutting equipment. This role supports production by ensuring material is prepared safely, efficiently, and to quality standards in a metal fabrication environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Operate band saws, cold saws, and/or other cutting equipment to cut metal stock (steel, aluminum, stainless, etc.)
Read and interpret job travelers, work orders, blueprints, and cut lists
Measure, mark, and position materials for accurate cutting
Verify cut dimensions using tape measures, calipers, or other measuring tools
Load and unload material using overhead cranes, forklifts, or carts as required
Perform routine machine inspections and basic preventative maintenance
Change blades and make machine adjustments as needed
Maintain a clean and organized work area following 5S standards
Identify material defects or quality issues and report them to supervision
Follow all safety procedures, including proper use of PPE
Work collaboratively with fabrication, welding, and production teams
Required Skills and Qualifications
Previous experience operating saws in a metal fabrication or manufacturing environment preferred
Ability to read a tape measure accurately (to 1/16" or better)
Basic blueprint and work order comprehension
Strong attention to detail and accuracy
Basic mechanical aptitude
Ability to follow safety rules and standard operating procedures
Dependable attendance and strong work ethic
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with cold saws, automatic saws, or CNC saw equipment
Forklift and/or overhead crane experience
Familiarity with structural steel shapes (tubing, angle, channel, plate, bar)
Knowledge of metal types and cutting speeds
Pay & shift: $20/hr - $23/hr based on skill and experience (requires someone with previous saw/drill work experience). Hiring for the first and second shift.
Job Type & Location: This is a Contract to Hire position based out of OLATHE, KS.
