Job Title
Performs intermediate semiskilled work in a variety of park and facility maintenance assignments; does related work as required.
General Definition And Conditions Of Work
Work is performed under regular supervision. This is medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for depth perception, color perception, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, use of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts at or within arms' length, operation of machines, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, noise, vibration, hazards, atmospheric conditions, and oils.
Essential Functions/Typical Tasks
Maintaining and repairing City buildings, parks, playing fields, equipment and facilities. Performs a variety of maintenance tasks including preparing and maintaining athletic playing fields.
Cleans floors, walls, lavatories, fixtures, toilets, etc.
Repairs and installs playground equipment and fences.
Removes trash from facilities and maintains surrounding grounds.
Trims and plants trees, shrubs, and flowers.
Mows grass, weed-eats, and related groundskeeping tasks; picks up leaves.
Maintains cemetery.
Sets up for and breaks down after special events.
Performs related tasks as required.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
General knowledge of maintenance methods and practices.
General knowledge of grass maintenance techniques, ability to understand and follow oral instructions.
Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods, often under unfavorable conditions.
Ability to operate tools and equipment safely.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and some experience in the performance of maintenance and repair work.
Special Requirements
Possession of an appropriate driver's license valid in the State of North Carolina.
