Seasonal/Temporary Pool Lifeguard
Job Description

Definition: Responsible for the safety and satisfaction of pool patrons through quality customer service; enforcement of pool rules and regulations and assistance with general pool maintenance. This is a seasonal position with no benefits.
Distinguishing Characteristics: Receives direction from the Pool Supervisor and the Director of Parks and Recreation.
Duties and Responsibilities

The duties listed below represent the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them if the work is related or a logical assignment to this class.
Responsible for safety and satisfaction of pool patrons through quality customer service.
Provides emergency assistance such as rescue or first aid as needed in and around pool.
Assists with general pool maintenance.
Enforce pool rules and regulations
Maintain organized and clean pool facilities
Provide customer service, at concessions and admissions
Other duties as assigned
Employment Standards:
Knowledge of: Operations, services and activities of a swimming pool.
Occupational hazards and applicable safety precautions.
CPR and general life saving techniques
English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation.
Pertinent Federal, State and local laws, codes and regulations.
Ability to:
Accurately use life preserving equipment
Handle and balance a cash drawer
Interpret and apply Federal, State and local policies, laws, and regulations.
Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Work flexible schedule, Tuesday through Sunday.
Work independently in the absence of supervision.
Follow all safety rules and regulations of the Parks and Recreation department.
Interpret, explain, and enforce departmental policies and procedures.
Interpret and explain city policies and procedures.
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Requirements

Minimum Qualifications: Education, Training and Experience:
High School Diploma or GED.
Previous lifeguard experience preferred, but not required.
Licenses and Certificates:
Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid Lifeguard, CPR, and First Aid certification.
Supplemental Information

Working Conditions: Outdoor environment with exposure to extreme temperatures, mechanical, chemical, and electrical hazards.
Physical Conditions:
Effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for: making observations, listen for equipment functioning, constant ability to observe worksite, communicating with others, reading and writing, recognizing and responding to questions, speaking in a clear, audible voice, monitoring assigned activities and operations, Operating assigned equipment.
Mental capacity which permits: making sound decisions and using good judgment, prioritizing work activities, answering questions, demonstrating intellectual capabilities.
Physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which may include the following: walking or standing for extended periods of time, lifting or carrying moderately heavy objects, Operating assigned equipment, general manual dexterity.
