The operating room scrub technician supports safe, efficient surgical care by preparing the sterile field, anticipating surgical team needs, maintaining aseptic technique, and ensuring proper handling of instruments, supplies, and specimens. Scrub tech functions as a critical member of the perioperative team and contributes to patient safety, infection prevention, and workflow efficiency in the acute care setting.

Qualifications include education requirements, experience, skills, and certifications. The role requires a graduate from an accredited surgical technology program, acute care OR experience one to three years, strong knowledge of aseptic technique and sterile field management, understanding of surgical instrumentation and procedural flow, ability to anticipate procedural needs, strong attention to detail and safety, ability to work efficiently in high-pressure environments, effective communication and teamwork skills, ability to follow policies, procedures, and regulatory standards, manual dexterity and physical stamina for prolonged standing and lifting, and flexibility to work variable shifts, weekends, holidays, and call. License/certification required includes certified surgical technologist (CST) NBSTSA and BLS.
