About the Job
The Custodial Equipment Mechanic provides repair, preventative maintenance, and training assistance for motorized custodial equipment such as autoscrubbers, vacuums, sweepers, carpet extractors, floor machines, burnishers, and pressure washers. Larger equipment is generally repaired onsite in the building where it is used, while smaller equipment is brought to the equipment repair room for service.
Location: In person, Como Neighborhood Food Operations Building.
Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 3:00 PM – 11:30 PM (flexible).
Primary Responsibilities
80% – Perform repair service to non‑functional or partially functional custodial equipment
15% – Perform preventative maintenance service to custodial equipment
5% – Assist in training of onsite staff for care of custodial equipment
Other duties as assigned as needed
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Technical education/training in mechanical maintenance totaling at least 1 year plus 1 year of applicable work experience, or a combination totaling 2 years or more
Mechanical minded ability to figure out how things work to troubleshoot repairs needed
Ability to read and write English for directions, troubleshooting, research, and communication
Ability to use computer software for recording and logging activities (TRIRIGA, Google)
Ability to walk/stand for the majority of the day with bending, squatting, kneeling, pushing, pulling, wrenching, etc. to access, remove, replace or repair components on equipment
Has a valid driver’s license and meets the requirements for driving University Vehicles
Ability to lift and carry 70 pounds (primarily for replacement of batteries)
Preferred Qualifications:
Personal relations skills for dealing with Supervisors and Custodial Staff
Patience to persist in troubleshooting to seek resolutions to equipment failures
Detail oriented to ensure repairs are complete and each machine is fully functional
Pay and Benefits
Pay Range:
$23.97 – $27.95, depending on education, qualifications, and experience
