
Controller

Job Summary
South Shore Community Action Council, Inc. (SSCAC), a private non‑profit working to end poverty on the South Shore, is actively seeking a qualified Controller to join our team at our main Obery Street offices in Plymouth. The Controller will report directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and will be responsible for overseeing the day‑to‑day finance operations of SSCAC, which has an annual budget of $30 million, and for managing a financial team of 5–6 staff members.
Core Duties
Oversight of all accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger account transactions and reporting systems to ensure compliance with applicable GAAP standards and funding regulations/requirements.
Prepare and oversee account reconciliations of expenditure, revenue, and balance sheet accounts, including resolving financial discrepancies monthly.
Prepare monthly interim financial statements and program financial reports.
Make recommendations to the CFO to ensure appropriate accounting practices and compliance with established financial policies and procedures.
Provide leadership in strengthening internal communications with staff at all organizational levels and create and promote a positive and supportive work environment.
Leverage strengths of current finance team members; clarify roles and responsibilities, and develop and implement training programs to maximize individual and organizational goals.
Maintain the accounting systems; oversee the updating and implementation of new modules as required.
Other duties as necessary to support the agency's fiscal goals as deemed appropriate by the CFO.
Core Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in accounting required; CPA preferred.
At least 7 years of full‑cycle accounting experience, ideally with a complex non‑profit with multiple federal and state contracts.
Strong interpersonal skills and proficient written and verbal communication.
Skills Required
Commitment to recruiting, mentoring, training, and retaining a diverse team; foresight and ability to delegate accordingly.
Keen analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills which allow for strategic data interpretation rather than simple reporting.
Minimum requirements: full‑time, in‑person employment.
