Position Purpose

Under the general supervision of the School Principal, facilitate student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills through implementing district-approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/outcomes; addressing specific educational needs of individual students; creating a flexible, safe and optimal learning environment; and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, etc.
Essential Functions

Develop and administer school elementary curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.
Promote a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction.
Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and translate lesson plans into learning experiences to best utilize available instructional time.
Conduct ongoing assessment of student learning and modify instructional methods to fit individual student needs, including students with special needs; conduct individual and small group instruction as needed.
Instruct students in responsible citizenship and other subject matters specified in applicable laws, as well as administrative regulations and procedures of the school system.
Continuously acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in education by attending seminars, workshops, or professional meetings, or by conducting research.
Organize and maintain an accurate record-keeping system for grading and reporting of all student activities, achievements, and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
Encourage parental involvement and maintain effective communication with students and parents.
Ensure student conduct conforms with school standards and district policies; establish and maintain behavioral standards to achieve a functional learning atmosphere.
Coordinate with other elementary staff, especially within grade level, to evaluate and assess curriculum and participate in faculty meetings and committees.
Select and requisition appropriate books, instructional aids and supplies; maintain inventory records.
Supervise students during out-of-classroom activities and transportation.
Administer standardized tests in accordance with district testing programs.
Additional Duties

Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and central office administrators, as designated by the Superintendent. Note: This description is illustrative of tasks and responsibilities and is not all-inclusive.
Equipment

Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printer, copier, fax machine, and telephone.
Travel Requirements

Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, and ability to differentiate instruction based on student learning styles.
Knowledge of elementary school curriculum and concepts.
Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis, and action plan formulation.
Knowledge of applicable federal and state education laws.
Ability to use computer network systems and software applications.
Ability to organize and coordinate work.
Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
Ability to engage in self-evaluation for professional growth.
Ability to establish cooperative relationships with others in the course of work.
Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards

Works in standard office and school building environments.
Qualifications Profile

Certification/License: MN State Certification as an Elementary Teacher.
MN State Certification in the appropriate grade level preferred.
Education

Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education or related discipline from an accredited college or university.
Master’s degree in a related area preferred.
Experience

Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade level is a plus.
