Position Title
Food Services
Position Summary
This position is seasonal in Naperville IL at NIU Naperville. The individual in this position will work closely with the Catering Supervisor to prepare and set-up catering break service, lunches, and receptions for conference clients at NIU Naperville. The position requires the ability to work independently with little supervision. This individual will have contact with conference clients and potential clients and must possess good interpersonal and communication skills. This individual must also be reliable, conscientious, and able to work well under pressure.
Responsibilities
70% Food Service Execution
Assists in the preparation, setup, and cleaning up for breaks, set-up, and service for lunches, dinners, and special catering events. Duties include greeting clients and monitoring the quality of catered food. Other responsibilities include food arrangement, replenishment, breakdown of catering stations, and cleaning of kitchen equipment. Prepare the setting up for the next-day events and communicate this information to the evening staff. Conducts weekly inventory and, in conjunction with orders, food supplies, and paper products, from multiple vendors. Responsible for the entire catering operation in the absence of the Catering Supervisor or Event Coordinator. Design and decorate break areas and dining rooms. Works closely with clients who request non-standard catering events.
20% Assist with Set-ups
Prepares all set-up requirements for the following day’s events and communicates any changes and/or necessary information to the morning staff. Set-up includes fully stocking all catering stations with supplies, fulfilling all A/V requests, configuring rooms, delivering client supplies to rooms, and preparing and setting up registration/exhibit tables in desired locations.
5% A/V
Providing all onsite A/V and technical assistance to faculty, staff, students, clients, and tenants. Helps set up projectors and sound systems, assists in accessing the Wi‑Fi, aids in the preparation for a presentation, and hooks up a computer to a projector and/or speakers.
5% Front Desk
Acts as site coordinator and front desk attendant by performing building opening/closing duties, greeting clients, and managing front desk services. This includes answering phone inquiries, faxing and copying client materials, and billing/posting these charges to client accounts.
Education / Experience
High School Diploma
Previous Industry Experience
Preferred Qualifications
Previous Catering or server Experience in Banquet Facility or Hotel
Physical Demands
Must be able to lift 25 lbs.

Anticipated Start Date: 05/01/2026
Standard Hours Per Week: 25
Working Hours: Monday – Thursday 6:30 am – 10 pm, Friday 6:30 am – 6 pm, Saturday 6:30 am – 6 pm as needed.
