Job Description
Coventry Public Schools is seeking an Anticipated Groundskeeper/Semi Skilled Laborer.
Primary Functions
Perform all duties pertaining to the upkeep, maintenance, and beautification of all grounds, athletic fields, walkways, and parking lots.
Perform a variety of manual tasks requiring general mechanical aptitude.
Perform general skilled and unskilled manual labor; operate farm and motor equipment as required.
Position Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent.
Four years of work experience in landscaping, turf farms, nursery, gardening, or similar work.
Valid driver’s license.
Valid phone number.
Certification of ability to perform essential functions by licensed practicing physician.
Knowledge of interscholastic rules and regulations regarding athletic field setup.
Essential Functions of the Job
Stand and move for long periods of time (6 hours).
Bend, squat, and twist on a regular basis during an 8-hour shift.
Lift or move up to 50 lbs.
Operate motorized lawn and garden equipment.
Occasionally climb ladders.
Manually shovel snow.
Work outside in varying temperature environments.
Use and wear personal protective equipment.
Responsibilities and Duties
Cut grass, repair damaged lawns, prune trees and hedges, and service motorized lawn, garden, and snow removal equipment.
Policing of grounds around all buildings as needed or designated.
Operate motorized lawn and garden equipment and perform routine cleaning and maintenance.
Remove snow and ice from walks, driveways, and parking lots, including operation of snow removal equipment.
Apply chemicals to grass areas, trees, walkways, and curbing as needed.
Prepare athletic fields prior to events (linings, equipment, etc.).
Move furnishings between locations for the school system.
Assist maintenance repair people as helpers when needed.
In winter months, perform custodial tasks as outlined within the custodial job description on the 1st and 2nd shift where needed.
Perform other assignments as requested by the Director of Physical Plant within reason and the broad framework of this job description.
Terms and Conditions of Employment
Twelve‑month position with salary, benefits, and hours of work in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
