Hours: generally 9:00am – 5:00pm (additional hours as required by role)
Salary Range: 110k – 130k
We are seeking an experienced Controller to support the financial operations of a well-established and growing real estate development firm, with multiple commercial real estate entities. This role is responsible for maintaining accurate accounting records, managing cash flow forecasting, and preparing detailed financial reports using Yardi. The position will collaborate closely with external CPA firms for tax preparation and play an active role in administrative functions, including risk management and coordination with IT vendors.
Key responsibilities include overseeing accounts payable and receivable, performing bank reconciliations, managing debt service and loan compliance, and preparing budgets, CAM reconciliations, and financial analyses across multiple properties. This individual will report directly to the CFO and contribute to the overall financial health and operational efficiency of the organization.
What you will be doing
Maintain the accounting records on Yardi for multiple entities so that financial statements can be prepared.
Assist our CPA/Accounting firm with information needed for tax return preparation.
Active in the administrative functions of the organization including legal issues, risk management and LAN administration with IT vendors.
Manage and report on weekly cash and cash flow forecasting.
Review accounts payable and receivable transactions.
Prepare daily/monthly/quarterly/yearly management reports.
Prepare the monthly bank reconciliations.
Close monthly accounting records on Yardi.
Review and analyze commercial lease financials, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and alignment with contractual terms.
Analyze mortgage documentation to verify accuracy and ensure compliance with contractual obligations and regulatory requirements.
Oversee line of credit draw submissions with financial institutions and communicate with title companies to obtain and validate property titles.
Review debt service payments, lender reports, loan covenant compliance and other accounts payable obligations.
Prepare the annual tenant expense recovery (CAM reconciliation) and escalation calculations.
Review insurance program for coverage and competitiveness of premiums.
Prepare annual budgets for multiple properties/entities.
Prepare monthly budget/actuals for multiple properties/entities.
Record all fees owed and transferred between entities.
What experience we are looking for
Bachelor’s degree in accounting required.
CPA is highly preferred.
Minimum 5 years’ experience in Commercial Real Estate.
Proficient in real estate accounting software, Yardi.
Familiarity with financial terms in commercial lease agreements and loan documents.
Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word; experience with other computer programs a plus.
