The Controller will oversee all accounting and financial reporting activities for a growing real estate and property management portfolio. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate property-level and consolidated financial reporting, strong internal controls, and compliance with GAAP and real estate‑specific accounting requirements. The ideal candidate has hands‑on experience with multi‑entity real estate accounting and works closely with asset management, property operations, and executive leadership.

Key Responsibilities

Oversee full-cycle accounting for multiple legal entities, properties, and ownership structures

Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements at the property and consolidated levels

Ensure accurate tracking of revenues, expenses, CAM reconciliations, and owner distributions

Manage accounting for acquisitions, dispositions, refinancings, and capital improvements

Maintain compliance with GAAP and real estate‑specific accounting standards

Budgeting, Forecasting & Analysis

Support annual property and corporate budgeting processes

Monitor operating performance against budgets and forecasts

Provide variance analysis and financial insights to management and asset teams

Property Management & Operations Support

Partner with property management teams on expense controls, lease administration, and recoveries

Oversee rent rolls, AR aging, and revenue recognition

Review and approve property manager financial reports

Support lender reporting and covenant compliance

Tax, Audit & Compliance

Coordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, and lenders

Oversee preparation of property-level and entity tax filings (partnerships, LLCs, K‑1s)

Maintain internal controls and accounting policies

Ensure compliance with loan agreements, investor reporting, and regulatory requirements

Leadership & Systems

Supervise and mentor accounting staff

Evaluate, implement, and improve accounting systems and processes

Ensure effective use of property management and accounting software

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (Master’s a plus)

CPA strongly preferred

7+ years of accounting experience, with significant real estate and property management exposure

Experience with multi‑entity and multi‑property accounting

Strong knowledge of GAAP and real estate accounting practices

Proficiency with common real estate accounting and property management systems (e.g., Yardi, AppFolio, MRI, RealPage, or similar)

Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical ability

Proven leadership and communication skills

Preferred Experience

Background in commercial or industrial real estate

Experience with investor reporting and joint venture accounting

Exposure to construction‑in‑progress and development accounting
