Food Service Assistant – Maple Grove (15393)
Location:
Cedar Rapids Community School District, Maple Grove Elementary School – Cedar Rapids, Iowa
Hours:
5.0 hours per day, 8:30 am – 1:30 pm, Nine‑month position (summer off)
Salary:
$15.75 per hour
Benefits:
All district benefits as per work agreement
Job Responsibilities
Perform general food service operations including food preparation and handling, as assigned.
Assist with cooking and participate in serving high‑quality food.
Wash, dry, and sanitize pots, pans, trays, and silverware using approved methods.
Serve as point‑of‑sale (POS) for breakfast and lunch, verifying reimbursable meals were served.
Process daily tally counts for claim reimbursement.
Assist with general cleanup duties.
Maintain open, positive communication with all people served by the Food & Nutrition Department.
Participate in short courses, meetings, and in‑service training requests.
Attend work as scheduled, arrive on time, fully prepared.
Follow established building and department procedures regarding tardiness, absence, and leave.
Other duties as assigned.
Essential Skills and Aptitudes
Knowledge of school food service programs, nutritional standards, and sanitation.
Effective communication and customer‑service skills.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Develop and maintain effective relationships to support a team atmosphere.
Required Education and Experience
High School Diploma or GED (preferred).
Kitchen‑related experience (preferred).
Physical Demands
Stand, walk, use hands/fingers, frequently squat, stoop, kneel, reach, and lift up to 50 pounds up to 12 ft (occasionally 20 ft). Frequent use of hand strength to grasp items. Ability to tolerate noise levels and temperature variations in kitchen and cafeteria. Must handle known food allergens.
Working Environment
Noise level consistently above average; frequently work in damp floors; temperatures higher than building average; must be able to work in different kitchen and cafeteria areas.
