Housing and Financial Services Program Development VISTA
AmeriCorps, Shreveport, LA, United States
The Housing and Financial Services Program at The Highland Center works to improve economic stability and opportunity for low- to moderate-income individuals and families across Northwest Louisiana. Through housing counseling, financial education, and free tax preparation services, the program helps clients reduce housing cost burdens, increase access to homeownership, and build long-term financial well-being. This VISTA-supported initiative focuses on strengthening program capacity, improving service delivery, and expanding outreach to underserved and rural communities. Key efforts include enhancing case management and follow-up systems to meet HUD standards, developing accessible educational materials, and implementing strategic marketing to increase participation in no-cost housing counseling and financial services. The program also prioritizes building sustainable infrastructure by creating centralized digital resources, standardized procedures, and “evergreen” materials that support long-term program growth. In addition, the VISTA will cultivate partnerships with housing finance agencies, financial institutions, and community organizations to expand access to resources such as credit‑building tools, homebuyer education, and banking services.
