Equipment Operator - Level I
The County of Riverside Transportation Department is seeking an Equipment Operator – Level I to operate various tracked and wheeled motorized equipment in the construction and maintenance of public works projects, including roads, highways, medians, hard shoulders, culverts, and storm debris removal.

Responsibilities

Operate and operate a wide range of equipment such as asphalt paver, asphalt roller, backhoes, bulldozers, dump trucks, excavators, mowers, front‑end loaders, grade tractors, roll‑off trucks, scrapers, skid steers, and water tank trucks.

Perform routine preventative maintenance on equipment and ensure tools and materials are stored properly.

Participate in traffic control during construction activities.

Load and unload equipment, maintain clean work sites, and safely store equipment.

Assist in light repairs and maintenance of equipment.

Qualifications and Experience

Minimum one year of experience in the repair, demolition, and construction of public roadways and sidewalks, including operation of tracked and/or wheeled motorized trucks.

Knowledge of tools, materials, and equipment commonly used in maintenance and construction work.

Ability to operate a heavy dump truck effectively and safely, perform a variety of skilled and semi‑skilled maintenance and construction tasks, and follow oral and written directions.

Requirements

Valid California Driver License, Class B, at the time of application.

Position is DOT safety‑sensitive; successful applicants must complete a DOT‑mandated alcohol and drug screening, and a DMV driving record must be submitted before hire.

Reference checks from former DOT regulated employers are required.
