
Equipment Operator II

Position Summary
Skilled work in the operation of moderately complex public works or sanitation equipment. Duties include performance of manual labor tasks.
Essential Functions
Operate one or more of the following on a regular basis: trimmers, weed eaters, chainsaw, tractor with mower (including other attachments), small dump truck, labor truck and other similar equipment with 2 axles, boom ax mower, light trucks, compactor or other similar equipment.
Operate one or more of the following equipment depending on project requirement: backhoe, bulldozer, track hoe, earth scraper, front‑end loader, large trucks, boom truck, hydraulic excavators, motor grader, and/or other similar equipment.
Wash, clean, and give routine first‑echelon maintenance to equipment.
Perform manual labor such as pothole patching, shoulder repair, ditch cleaning, tree trimming, bridge repair, headwall construction, and other duties.
Perform related work as required.
Occasionally operate a pipe laser.
During emergencies, all employees are considered essential personnel and may be required to perform alternate duties.

Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Two or more years of experience in the operation and routine maintenance of medium and heavy equipment; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Must have a valid Florida driver’s license.
Flagler County is a drug‑free workplace; some positions may require a pre‑employment drug screen.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge and ability to operate medium and heavy equipment or willingness to be trained.
Knowledge of component parts and maintenance needs of the equipment.
Knowledge of traffic regulations governing equipment use.
Knowledge of occupational hazards involved.
Ability to service equipment.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instruction.
Skill in the operation of construction or sanitation equipment.
Ability to prepare simple reports and understand simple documentation such as load tickets, delivery receipts, and timesheets.
Physical Requirements
Physical demand: Moderate.
Maximum lifting of 50 lbs.
Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, lift, and move approximately 50 lbs.
Physical strength sufficient to operate equipment and over rough terrain.
Ability to perform manual labor under adverse weather conditions.
