Summary
This is the first of two levels in the Equipment Operations-Light series. Incumbents operate and maintain vehicles and equipment that may require a Commercial Driver's License to operate. Responsibilities include driving or operating the listed equipment or other similarly categorized equipment normally utilized in operations; inspecting vehicles and equipment for safety issues; performing routine vehicle and equipment maintenance; loading and unloading materials; and performing related manual labor.

Example Duties

Operate a variety of general, small, and simple equipment in the performance of construction, maintenance, and repair work to streets, landscaped areas, and/or other related areas.

Transport equipment and/or materials to designated job site(s).

Inspect, maintain, and perform basic repairs to equipment.

Operate small motorized and/or hand tools to perform manual labor activities.

Perform loading and unloading shipments, flag traffic, assemble structures, pick up debris, and other related duties.

Direct the work zone or other traffic control setups on job sites in accordance with MUTCD or other generally accepted standards.

Educational and Experience Requirements

High School Diploma (G.E.D.) and at least one year of proficiency in the use and operation of qualifying equipment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Must hold recognized training certification and be able to safely operate one or more pieces of qualifying equipment.

Licensing Requirements

Valid Driver's License as per State law or Department requirement.

Public Works or other recognized Training Certification on Qualifying Equipment.

Some positions may require a CDL (class to be determined by equipment assignment).

Physical Requirements

Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.

Heavy work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Exposure to moving mechanical parts, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, intense noises, travel, and environmental hazards.

Work Environment

Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions.

Exposure to fumes or airborne particles, occasional exposure to high, precarious places and vibration.

Potential exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals depending on equipment assigned.

Noise level usually loud.

Uniform
An employee in this position will be supplied with a uniform. The employee is responsible for abiding by the Police Jury's Uniform Agreement.
