Job Title: Packer Operator

Job Description
The Packer Operator works in a food-grade production environment, operating and adjusting packaging machinery, handling materials of varying weights, and ensuring accurate labeling and traceability for all packaged products. This role rotates through multiple tasks and areas within production, requires occasional heavy lifting, and relies on strong attention to detail, integrity, and adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). Forklift operation is an important component of the role, depending on shift and plant assignment.

Responsibilities

Operate and monitor packaging machines, making precise adjustments based on the product being produced and the size and type of packaging required.

Rotate through various tasks and areas within the production environment as needed to support overall workflow and production goals.

Handle and package products in a range of weights, from small 5-pound bags to large 2000-pound totes, following all safety and quality standards.

Ensure every package is properly barcoded for traceability, verifying that labels are accurate and clearly applied.

Use a computer system to create and print labels, entering information accurately to maintain product identification and tracking.

Manually stack filled bags onto pallets in an organized and stable manner to facilitate safe storage and transport.

Dump totes of raw product into mills or other processing equipment, following established procedures and safety guidelines.

Lift up to 50 pounds on occasion while performing material handling and packaging tasks, using proper lifting techniques.

Follow all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and food safety protocols to maintain a clean, safe, and compliant production environment.

Maintain a high level of integrity and care in handling food-grade products, ensuring quality and safety at every step.

Collaborate with team members and shift leads to meet production targets and adjust to changing priorities within the plant.

Report equipment issues, safety concerns, or product quality deviations promptly to support continuous improvement and safe operations.

Essential Skills

Experience in packing, packaging, or general labor within a production or manufacturing environment.

Ability to operate or learn to operate forklifts; forklift experience is preferred for some shifts and required for others.

Familiarity with food production environments and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).

Basic computer skills to create and manage labels and barcodes accurately.

Capability to manually stack bags and handle products weighing up to 50 pounds on occasion.

Comfort working with and around wheat, sesame, coconut, oats, and dust, with no related sensitivities.

Ability to follow detailed instructions and standard operating procedures in a fast-paced environment.

Strong attention to detail to ensure correct labeling, barcoding, and packaging of products.

Reliable attendance and punctuality to support consistent production operations.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Prior experience in food production or food-grade packaging environments.

Demonstrated high integrity and strong character when performing job duties in a food-grade setting.

Experience with machine operation in a manufacturing or production facility.

Understanding of general labor practices, including safe material handling and equipment use.

Interest in learning multiple areas of production with a desire to grow and advance within the facility.

Work Environment
This position is based in a food-grade production facility that operates multiple plants and shifts. Available schedules include Monday through Friday shifts such as 1:00 pm–9:30 pm at one plant (forklift preferred), 3:00 pm–11:30 pm at another plant (forklift required), and 11:00 pm–7:30 am at a third plant (forklift required). On the first day, employees start directly on their assigned shift and arrive 15–30 minutes early for uniform fitting and check‑in. The environment involves working around wheat, sesame, coconut, oats, and dust, and requires adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and food safety standards. Work includes standing for extended periods, operating packaging and milling equipment, handling products of varying weights, and using computers for labeling and barcoding. The dress code includes non‑slip shoes (no steel toe required), company‑provided uniforms, and the use of masks and hairnets to maintain hygiene and safety.

Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fargo, ND.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $22.00/hr.
