Position Purpose
The Teacher plans and provides appropriate learning experiences for students. S/he creates a conducive atmosphere for intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development, ensuring success for every student. The Teacher supervises students in various school‑related settings, monitors and evaluates outcomes, and communicates with students, parents, staff, and the community. The Teacher develops, selects, and modifies instructional plans and materials to meet all students’ needs, maintains records, follows required procedures, and monitors the care of equipment, materials, and facilities. Teaching areas include all certified subjects such as Core Curriculum, Specialty, Media, Languages, and Remediation.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution in an applicable field for applicable level(s)
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Extensive knowledge of ABSS curriculum and effective instructional practices
Thorough understanding of the K‑12 teaching and learning process
Ability to provide instruction reflecting multiple perspectives and multicultural education
Ability to infuse technology into the curriculum
Ability to monitor student safety, especially during inclusive activities
Ability to motivate and inspire students
Ability to maintain a clean and orderly environment
Ability to perform general clerical duties
Ability to maintain order and discipline in classroom and other school environments
Ability to operate common office machines
Ability to maintain basic files and records
Ability to work effectively with administrators, colleagues, central office, school‑based staff, students, parents and the community
Excellent oral and written communication and human relations skills
Education, Training, and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution in an applicable field for applicable level(s)
Transfer from another school system only if routine "meets standards" or "above standard" evaluations with no action plans for improvement
Equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities
Certification and License Requirements
Valid Teacher’s License issued by the state of NC in applicable field and level
Not listed on the NCDPI list of teachers no longer qualified nor currently under a certification revocation hearing
Valid driver’s license issued by the NC Department of Motor Vehicles
Preferred Qualifications
National Board Certification
Demonstrated record of achieving Highly Qualified status on evaluations
Spanish Speaking
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Plan a program of study that meets the needs, interests, and abilities of students
Teach assigned classes in designated locations and times consistently
Create a classroom environment that encourages student involvement and achievement of learning objectives
Provide an instructional program that meets all students’ needs
Prepare for classes and demonstrate preparation when requested by the supervisor
Guide learning toward the achievement of curriculum goals in harmony with ABSS framework
Establish clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects to communicate effectively to students
Use instructional methods, resources, and evaluation techniques that motivate and enable student achievement
Take necessary and permitted safety precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
Maintain accurate and complete records as required by law, ABSS policy, NCDPI, and administrative regulations
Assist with implementing student life and conduct policies, develop classroom rules, and maintain order fairly
Be available to students and parents for education‑related purposes outside the instructional day when required under reasonable terms
Build respectful relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and the community
Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for teacher assistants and volunteers
Reflect on personal effectiveness and apply new skills to increase effectiveness
Strive to maintain and improve professional competence
Participate in school management and share responsibilities for the total school program
Attend staff meetings and serve on committees as required
Administer and supervise standardized test administrations per applicable codes and regulations
Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal
