Responsibilities
Facilitates the safe and efficient performance of surgical procedures.
Provides care to obstetrical patients by functioning as a member of the surgical team performing scrub duties.
Provides support to the unit by performing clerical, stocking, and transporting services when not functioning as a member of the surgical team.
Responsible for patient registration; answers call lights, telephones, and relays messages to appropriate personnel.
Prepares the surgical operating suite with drapes, solutions, instruments, equipment and supplies.
Assists with preparing, transporting, positioning and draping patients.
Provides equipment and supplies based on patient needs and anticipates the needs of the surgeon; passes instruments to physicians during surgery.
Practices aseptic technique; follows the correct procedure for scrubbing prior to the case.
Continually accounts for the number and location of instruments and supplies during surgery.
Receives and processes specimens for delivery to the laboratory.
Enters patient, departmental and supply charges in the computer system on all L&D patients prior to discharge as documented on charge sheets by the RN.
Provides clerical/secretarial support to the department, ensuring physician order forms, progress notes, and other forms are on charts.
Places patient labels as needed, breaks down discharge charts, sorts and files records, and maintains the function of fax machine, printers, and copier.
Maintains established PAR levels and ensures appropriate supply and linen PAR levels are in OR suites and LDRs.
Notifies manager of low stock on special‑order items and checks supplies for outdated items and removes them from stock.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent; graduate of a program in surgical technology preferred.
Basic Life Support (BLS) American Heart Association (AHA) required.
