POSITION SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Assistant Community Development Director/Planning Manager, the Assistant Planner performs moderate‑difficulty short‑ and long‑range planning functions. This includes assisting the public with land‑use, development, and environmental matters; preparing research and staff reports for the Planning Commission, Design Review Commission, and City Council; conducting field inspections; and reviewing projects for zoning compliance, design and environmental issues. The role also supports ongoing initiatives in historic preservation, advanced planning, housing, sustainability, and development code revisions, and responds to inquiries from applicants, developers, consultants, and other city departments.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in planning, public administration, or a closely related field.
One (1) year of full‑time employment in urban and regional planning, redevelopment, or a related field.
More than one (1) year of work experience in municipal or local government is beneficial.
Any combination of experience, education, knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.
