The selected candidate will be placed in the classification in which they meet minimum qualifications. Transportation Engineer 1 or 2 hire will complete ODOT’s Transportation Civil Engineering Program, including a 12‑month training plan and scheduled rotation through Planning & Engineering, Construction, and Highway Maintenance.
Responsibilities
Receive a thorough introduction to the three core civil engineering disciplines.
Work alongside ODOT professional engineers.
Receive hands‑on transportation training and experience to further career as an engineer with ODOT.

Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in engineering; accepted for Basic Fundamentals of Engineering Examination (EIT) by the Ohio Board of Registration for Professional Engineers & Surveyors.
Valid certificate as Engineer‑In‑Training issued or accepted as equivalent by the Ohio Board of Registration for Professional Engineers & Surveyors; 12 months experience as Transportation Engineer 1, 85641.
Or Bachelor's degree in engineering; valid certificate as Engineer‑In‑Training issued or accepted as equivalent by the Ohio Board of Registration for Professional Engineers & Surveyors; 2 years engineering‑related experience.
Or equivalent of minimum class qualifications for employment noted above may be substituted for the experience required, but not for the mandated registration.
Legal and Employment Information
This position is overtime eligible based on FLSA standards.
All bargaining unit new hires must serve a one (1) year probationary period.
Position will be filled pursuant to the provision of the OCSEA/AFSCME contract.
The final candidate selected for this position will be required to undergo a criminal background check. An individual assessment of an applicant’s prior criminal convictions will be made before excluding an applicant from consideration.
