Job Description: Performs routine administrative support work. Supports with disseminating information, maintaining filing systems, preparing and editing reports, and documents. Works under moderate supervision with limited latitude for initiative and independent judgment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Organizes, assigns, and reviews unit count room activities including absentee tracking procedures; assigns inmate housing in compliance with legal, medical, and custody requirements; reviews housing and job assignment records; maintains classification committee records.
Coordinates with security staff to ensure accuracy of the count process and appropriate inmate housing assignments; assists in resolving errors or conflicts; ensures accurate maintenance of the count room board display.
Assists in performing data entry for the preparation and maintenance of accurate count room records and verification of information related to unit strength, additions, deletions, housing assignments, custody status, job assignments, medical status, absences, and lay‑ins.
Responds to routine inquiries regarding count room rules, regulations, policies, procedures, records, and reports; assists in the development of unit count room policies and procedures; makes recommendations for improvements.
Organizes, assigns, and reviews the work of others; assists in training and providing technical assistance to others.
Performs a variety of marginal duties not listed, as determined and assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Experience, and Training
Graduation from an accredited senior high school or equivalent or GED.
Preferred: Customer service, clerical, secretarial, administrative support, technical program support, or criminal justice experience.
Preferred: Correctional unit operations experience.
Preferred: Computer operations experience.
Preferred: Inmate classification experience.
Knowledge and Skills
Knowledge of office practices and procedures.
Preferred: Knowledge of unit count room procedures.
Preferred: Knowledge of agency and departmental organizational structure, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
Skill to communicate ideas and instructions clearly and concisely.
Skill to coordinate with other staff, departments, officials, agencies, organizations, and the public.
Skill to interpret and apply rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
Skill in problem‑solving techniques.
Skill in the use of computers and related equipment in a stand‑alone or local area network environment.
Skill to prepare and maintain accurate records, files, and reports.
Skill to plan work to meet established guidelines.
Skill to plan, organize, and assign the work of others.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS WITH OR WITHOUT REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION
Ability to walk, stand, sit, kneel, push, stoop, reach above the shoulder, grasp, pull, bend repeatedly, climb stairs, identify colors, hear with aid, see, write, count, read, speak, analyze, alphabetize, lift and carry under 15 lbs., perceive depth, operate a motor vehicle, and motor equipment.
Conditions include working inside, around machines with moving parts, radiant and electrical energy, closely with others, alone, protracted or irregular hours, traveling by car, van, bus, and airplane.
